How to read the sources. Blue links open the article that supports the figure. “Latest Forbes” shows a newer estimate where one has been published, so it can differ from the ranked 2023 value. Dashed tags mean only the aggregated Forbes list backs that entry so far.

Bilanz gives wealth as a range. In 2016 the Bertarelli family led the canton at CHF 12–13 billion. By 2023 the regional newspaper Der Bund reported Bilanz putting Ernesto Bertarelli, living in Gstaad, at CHF 17 billion. Read the 2023 article (PDF).

Rankings use Forbes’ 2023 estimates in US dollars. Bilanz, the Swiss magazine, publishes a separate annual list of the 300 richest residents in Swiss francs: its 2025 edition puts their combined wealth at CHF 851.5 billion. Tied fortunes share a rank. Estimates move with markets and are not audited.

Gaps we are still closing: Gary Fegel, Stephane Bonvin and several others currently rest on the Forbes list alone. If you hold a primary source (for example a Bilanz or swissinfo article), add it to the refs field of that person in the data block at the bottom of this file. To add a portrait, save the photo in images/people/ named after the person, for example ivan-glasenberg.jpg (full list of filenames at the top of the script).
